ART Oviedo 2023
ART Oviedo | XIII Contemporary Art Fair
This year's edition of the fair seeks to bring contemporary art closer to immediate, everyday reality. The aim is for ArteOviedo to function as a "toolbox", borrowing the idea from Antonio Monegal in his book "Like the air we breathe. The meaning of culture" and for both the professional and general public to obtain these "tools" that facilitate notions, analysis guidelines and interpretation systems to use when approaching contemporary art with an open mind, through the projects presented by the galleries and the parallel programme of workshops aimed at children and talks.
We participated in ARTE Oviedo, the 13th Oviedo Contemporary Art Fair, with the Solo Project “Encounters on the Horizon” by the Asturian painter Alba Escayo .
"Encounters on the Horizon" where art, the sea and symbolism intertwine in a unique dialogue. A visual and emotional journey through a reflection on the Sea, exploring the intimate connection between humanity and the ocean.
In the centre of the stand, we find an installation consisting of a ship's sail painted in volume that stands as a beacon of beauty, radiating the essence of the sea, as well as fishing nets. On a side wall, the works on paper from the series "Ports" reveal the poetry of the places where man and the sea converge. Escayo works with old transferred photography, words and symbols to tell the story of the interaction of man and sea. On the wall opposite the paper pieces, we find small pictorial pieces on a ship's sail.
"Encounters on the Horizon" is an artistic experience that invites you to explore the deep connection between man and the ocean, where poetry intertwines with memory, painting and symbolism to tell the story of life on the shore and the eternal dance between man and the sea.
