The paintings of Laurence Chouzenoux (France, 1971) feature imaginary young women. Stylized faces, large, enigmatic black eyes, rosy cheekbones, each of them opens the door to a world of frankness and mystery. “I paint beauty. But not only that. It is a bit of a reflection of my soul. I sit in front of the canvas and become Alice in Wonderland. I make it exist from a smell, from a memory.” A permanent search, for each young woman, for the balance between her great fragility and the strength of her gaze. A journey to the heart of the intimate through each new portrait.
Currently lives and works in Brive-la-Gaillarde.
