FLEETING

We desire Nature, while looking away and with the greatest strength of which we are capable. We recognize ourselves in it and often we also long to lose ourselves, to stray and to belong to its magnitude, taking part in that pulsating natural dimension that in the pieces of María Ortega Estepa appears so convulsive, almost passionate.

It is art, through the fertile capacity of its images, that provides meeting points for our dilemmas and guides us towards new possibilities of understanding. To understand nature is to lose oneself in it, it is that place where we want to escape from everything, to ask questions. Whoever has set out to confront it and interpret it knows well the difficulties that its infinite facets present.

María Ortega Estepa builds spaces of confluence between accumulated materials that reflect the heterogeneity of the natural world: acrylic mixed with oil, sometimes diluted, other times dense, graphite on paper and tempera share the space charged with encounters between interior and exterior worlds. The space of her pieces can be explored, penetrated, and traveled in multiple rhythms, as it is an imprecise space, charged with potential dialogues with a fantasy environment that, however, seems real, true.

This permanent contact with the vegetal, which became an accomplice, has left a lasting mark on his personality, which seems to desire to respect and admire the primal. These paintings compete with nature, yes, there is no doubt about it. But they also prolong it, expand it, reinterpret it. He wanted to establish this type of subtle dialogue with nature and to translate to us the impressions of what he received from them, transforming his discoveries into magic, creating a poetics that is increasingly mature, increasingly personal.

A journey that impels us to penetrate a familiar and ignored space where the density of experiences that accumulate there make us perceive it as a place where stories settle and where nature, saturated with presences, seems inhabited. And everything is summed up in the word FLEETING .
